So after some rowing trials in the yacht club harbour we were confident that we could make it to the jetty and independence!
We joined a boat tour of the Paraná Delta around Tigre. There are probably about 1700 km of rivers in the delta so we didn’t manage to cover all of that in a day. We passed many houses along the rivers edges with piers that stretch into the river from where they can pick up a taxi or deliveries – and also artificial beaches, a school and church. Delta life…
Before returning to our houseboat we visited the National Naval Museum in Tigre with its indoor exhibition of the history of the Argentinian Navy which dates from the time of Guillermo Brown who came from Foxford in Ireland – and its outdoor exhibition of old planes and bombed parts of battle stations.
And on to Salta and the Northwest………
So their Navy was started by Billy Brown from Ireland. When was that then?
